Isuzu Motors South Africa is allocating close to R30 million to modernise its commercial‑vehicle assembly plant in Gqeberha, the company said on 7 October 2026. The investment covers upgrades to chassis and engine sub‑assembly areas, the cab‑marriage operation, new tooling and revised production layouts. Isuzu added that an extended chassis line will allow extra stations, broadening the range of vehicles the plant can build.
Safety and ergonomics are also a focus, with new fuel‑tank grippers, lift‑assist devices, a cab‑marriage hoist and electronic torque tools intended to reduce physical strain on workers. Energy‑efficient tools and motors have been introduced to cut resource use and environmental impact.
Executive vice‑president Johan Vermeulen said the spend reflects a long‑term commitment to South African manufacturing and to meeting evolving mobility needs across Africa.
