Iranian President Pezeshkian heads to UNGA to present grievances against the United States

President Pezeshkian and his team will address the UNGA on Wednesday, citing US actions and seeking diplomatic solutions.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian departed Tehran on Tuesday morning, leading a delegation that includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The team is scheduled to address the 193‑member assembly on Wednesday, where they plan to highlight the "plight of the Iranian nation, the crimes that have been committed against it, and the distrust that has been created," according to Pezeshkian in statements to reporters before boarding.

Araghchi, who arrived in New York earlier, said his side‑track meetings will focus on defending the rights and interests of the Iranian people. Both officials warned that renewed use of force by Iran’s foes would be counter‑productive, adding that they intend to make "the enemies disappointed."

The delegation will remain in New York for five days, returning to Tehran on Saturday. The United States has denied visas to the media team accompanying Pezeshkian and imposed tighter restrictions on the delegation’s movements.

Among the issues the Iranian side plans to raise are the Minab school bombing, which they attribute to the United States, and the alleged assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the opening day of the war. Araghchi also criticised the UN’s effectiveness, saying trust in the organisation has been lost because of its perceived inability to establish international peace and security.
