Flames GM Craig Conroy urges scoring surge in Saddledome farewell season
Conroy highlights the need for young players to step up as the Flames prepare for their last home opener at the arena.

Calgary Flames general manager Craig Conroy told reporters on Sept. 30 that the team must improve its scoring as it enters its final season at the Saddledome, with the last home‑opener scheduled for Thursday against the Seattle Kraken.
Conroy, in his fourth year as GM, noted the Flames were the league’s lowest‑scoring team last season and missed the playoffs for a fourth straight year. He pointed to the club’s 20‑somethings – including Matt Coronato, Joel Farabee, Morgan Frost, Matvei Gridin, Connor Zary, Martin Pospisil and Adam Klapka – as the core that needs to generate more goals.
The Flames will move to the new Scotia Place arena next year, making this season a “send‑off” for the 43‑year‑old venue. Conroy, who played 1,009 NHL games in Calgary, recalled personal memories of the arena, saying he can still picture the seats his family used when he was a player.
