Philadelphia released backup quarterback Andy Dalton on Friday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, as the team reshuffled its roster after trading center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens and right tackle Lane Johnson's retirement.
Tanner McKee and rookie Cole Payton now sit behind starter Jalen Hurts on the depth chart. Dalton, 38, had appeared in three preseason games (18‑of‑35 for 168 yards and a touchdown) and briefly entered the 27‑7 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 3, throwing an interception.
Garafolo said the Eagles could still bring Dalton back on the 53‑man roster or practice squad later in the season.
