Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit New Delhi early on Monday, October 13, making it the wettest October day in four years, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Safdarjung observatory recorded 41.6 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am, while the Ridge station logged 49 mm, the highest among the city’s five stations. Rainfall at other stations included 41.4 mm at Lodhi Road, 39 mm at Ayanagar and 31 mm at Palam. The showers lowered temperatures and moved the city’s air‑quality rating to the “satisfactory” category for the first time this month. Water‑logging was reported in Sainik Farm and Mahipalpur, and the Delhi Traffic Police diverted traffic on Ansari Road. Meteorologists said the rains were caused by a western disturbance over northern Pakistan, a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
