Episode 8 of Dark Matter season 2, released on Apple TV, expands Laurel’s (Margo Martindale) history and finally shows who Charlie sees at Laurel’s house, a mystery left open in episode 7.

The episode opens with a flashback to Laurel rescuing a version of Amanda (Alice Braga) after another Jason (Joel Edgerton) brings her in with a tree branch lodged in her chest. Laurel nurses Amanda back to health, then sends both Jason and Amanda on their way. Later, a version of Leighton (Dayo Okeniyi) visits Laurel, proposing her home become a way‑station for travelers. Blair (Amanda Brugel) follows, and when Amanda and Jason run low on vials, they stop again. Amanda decides to stay in Laurel’s world, and a despondent Jason, having given up hope of reuniting with his original family, joins her, finding a new sense of happiness.

The episode returns to the present, where Charlie arrives at Laurel’s house. The source confirms that the figure he sees is the version of his father now living with Amanda in Laurel’s world. The two share a bittersweet conversation, during which Jason tells his son, “Life, it’ll take you this way and that way… but if you choose the genuine real life that you want, you won’t need to look back.”

“Dark Matter” season 2 continues to drop new episodes every Friday on Apple TV.
