A section of Thiruvanmiyur Road near Tidel Park in Chennai collapsed on Thursday morning, creating a roughly 10‑foot‑deep sinkhole that swallowed a car, Gulf News reported. The vehicle, carrying a man and a woman, overturned inside the crater; police sources said both passengers were safe. The collapse occurred along a stretch where metro rail construction is underway, prompting concerns about road safety in the heavily trafficked area. Authorities and metro workers moved quickly to secure the site and begin restoration, but traffic remained disrupted as repairs continued. The incident is not the first in the neighbourhood – a similar collapse in May 2025 on the Old Mahabalipuram Road left a six‑foot crater and injured five people.
