Two veteran brothers, one living in Grass Valley, California, and the other in eastern Connecticut, connected on a video call on Thursday, their first face‑to‑face meeting in 40 years, according to nypost.com.

What happened

The Placer County Veterans Service Office arranged the video reunion, enabling the siblings—separated by nearly 3,000 miles—to see each other through a screen after decades of phone contact.

What was said

Steve Johnson, a Placer County Veterans Service officer, told KCRA3, “I think it’s a great opportunity for us to help both of these veterans maybe become a little more healthy in their mental health.” He added, “I can’t imagine that it’s a great feeling not to be able to see your family for such a long time.”

How it came about

The office, which provides counseling, education, benefits assistance and advocacy for veterans, is also working with a nonprofit to supply the brothers with internet access and tablets so future video calls can replace phone calls.
