In the Lakers’ preseason opener at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center, rookie forward Cameron Carr contributed 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including three of seven from beyond the arc, as Los Angeles beat the Kings 127-103.
Playing 23 minutes off the bench, Carr was the team’s second‑leading scorer behind Luka Dončić, who posted 21 points in his first game back after a six‑month layoff.
“Every chance I get to step on the court, just growing in areas and just getting more comfortable with just playing in the offense and being efficient,” Carr told the New York Post. He admitted he was nervous before his first exhibition, but said the feeling quickly faded once the game began.
Beyond scoring, Carr emphasized the need to improve defensively to earn a regular‑season rotation spot. He said coach JJ Redick expects wings to stay “on top of my cues,” referencing drills with teammates Matisse Thybulle, Ziaire Williams, Quentin Grimes and Adou Thiero.
Looking ahead, Carr hopes to translate his preseason performance into meaningful minutes when the Lakers open the regular season against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 21.
