Skattebo, returning from a fractured tibia, emphasizes personal improvement rather than competing with the Cardinals’ rookie running back.

Giants running back Cam Skattebo told the media on Oct. 1, 2026 that his priority is to out‑perform his own previous output, not to eclipse rookie Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love, who is visiting New York for a practice showdown.

Skattebo, who logged 100 yards from scrimmage in his last game, said, “Outperforming [Love] is not in my vision. I want to outperform myself from last week. I’m not worried about any other running backs or anybody else on the field. I’m worried about me, my production, making sure that I’m doing the right things.” He added that missed assignments in the prior week were his responsibility and he intends to correct them.

The Giants entered the 2026 NFL Draft with Love ranked among their top three prospects, alongside quarterback Fernando Mendoza and linebacker Arvell Reese. Coach John Harbaugh praised Love’s versatility, noting his speed, toughness, hands, ability to line up as a receiver, and pass‑protection skills.

Running backs coach Willie Taggart confirmed Skattebo is still recovering from surgery on a fractured tibia that ended his rookie season, limiting his participation in offseason workouts. Taggart said, “I was excited about coaching the guys we have here… didn’t get much from Skatt during OTAs around that time because he still was recovering.”

Love, the Cardinals’ No. 3 pick, is averaging 3.9 yards per carry, 204 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns over three games, while the Giants’ Najee Harris is beginning to see more touches.
