Brazil's tourism authority announced that 75 beaches and marinas have earned Blue Flag certification for the 2026/27 season, a 25% increase from the 60 sites recognised in the previous season, according to the Independent.
The Blue Flag programme, which operates in 52 countries, evaluates water quality, waste management, environmental education and visitor services. The 75 certified sites are distributed across seven states and comprise 63 beaches and 12 marinas.
Five locations have retained the flag for more than a decade. Tombo Beach in Guarujá, near São Paulo, leads with 17 consecutive certifications, while Prainha near Rio de Janeiro follows with 14. The top‑five also includes Ponta de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe in Salvador, Lagoa do Peri Beach in Florianópolis and Praia Grande in Governador Celso Ramos, each with 11 successive awards.
New entrants this year are Daniela, Açores and Moçambique beaches in Florianópolis, as well as Itapema do Norte, Molhe and Mar Grosso, also in Santa Catarina.
Bruno Reis, president of Embratur, Brazil’s tourist board, said the country’s beaches are "among the most extraordinary in the world, with crystal‑clear waters, natural pools and a diversity of landscapes that few destinations can match," adding that the recognitions enhance Brazil’s sun‑and‑beach appeal.
