Boxer Retail Limited said on 12 October 2026 that long‑time executive Justin Galloway will become CEO‑designate, succeeding current chief executive Marek Masojada, who will retire at the end of February 2027.
What happened
The retailer disclosed that Galloway will formally assume the chief executive role on 1 March 2027 after a five‑month transition period. Masojada will remain with the company until November 2027 to support the incoming leadership team. The succession plan follows the process established when Boxer listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in November 2024.
What the report adds
Bizcommunity notes that Galloway was chosen after a search that considered both internal and external candidates. His background includes finance, store operations and supply‑chain roles since joining Boxer in 2012, becoming a group executive in 2020, and leading the development of the retailer’s distribution infrastructure from 2014 onward. Masojada, who joined Boxer in 1993 when it operated five stores and generated R120 million in turnover, spent 25 years as head of finance before becoming managing executive in 2019 and CEO in 2024.
What was said
“I am incredibly proud of how Boxer has grown, and I will retire knowing that the business is in a strong position,” Masojada told Bizcommunity. “Having worked alongside Justin for many years, I know Boxer will continue its momentum.”
Galloway said, “It is a privilege to be able to lead a business valued by so many South Africans. Over the past 14 years, I have had the opportunity to work across different areas of Boxer and gain a deep understanding of our business, our customers and our people. I look forward to building on the strong foundation.”
How it came about
Boxer’s growth from five stores to roughly 600 locations over three decades was driven by Masojada’s oversight of store‑footprint expansion and the company’s transition to a listed entity in 2024. The internal succession reflects Boxer’s strategy of promoting leaders with direct experience of its low‑price, high‑volume model and its expanding distribution network.
