Designer Ashish Gupta unveiled his Spring 2027 ready‑to‑wear collection at Central Saint Martins on 30 September, presenting 25 looks—one for each year since he began his career.
Gupta, a 2000 graduate of the CSM MA program under the late Professor Louise Wilson, said the collection uses hand‑written placards instead of T‑shirts to convey messages such as “Libraries Not Data Centres,” “Put Smart People in Charge,” and “UK Garage Not UK Farage.” He explained that some visual cues are coded, citing a leopard‑print trouser suit that references Jane Fonda’s anti‑Vietnam‑war protests.
All garments were produced by artisans at the Ashish atelier in New Delhi, and Gupta described the project as “A Handmade Tale.” He reflected on the current political climate, noting a “move towards fascism” and describing the work as a way to “raise a laugh in the darkness.”
