BMW presented a restructuring plan on 1 October at its Gut Schwärzenbach retreat and Munich headquarters, aiming to restore investor confidence after a series of profit warnings and a share‑price slump.

The plan targets a 20% reduction in divisions and management roles by mid‑2027, a redundancy programme affecting about 8,000 jobs in Germany, and a medium‑term margin goal of 3‑5% for its core automotive business by 2028, rising to 8‑10% by the early 2030s.

AI will be central to streamlining operations and speeding decision‑making, according to the company. CEO Milan Nedeljković said the measures will help BMW “meet the increasingly fierce competition that will define this industry in the coming years.”

Product strategy shifts include an entry‑level electric vehicle for Europe from 2028 and a new luxury SUV aimed at wealthier U.S. consumers. In China, BMW plans deeper localisation, partnership‑based autonomous‑driving tech and possible exports to Southeast Asia.
