BJP leader urges Telangana govt to launch special drought relief for farmers

Narayana Reddy demands a new Rythu Bharosa package and faster clearance of pending dues amid severe drought.

By Felo News Desk · Published

Senior BJP leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Monday pressed the Telangana Congress government to announce a special Rythu Bharosa package for farmers suffering from drought‑like conditions linked to El Niño, and to clear all pending Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bharosa dues.

Reddy said farmers cannot be expected to forgo an entire cropping season without adequate financial protection, referencing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s appeal for farmers to skip the upcoming Yasangi (Rabi) season to conserve drinking water. He argued that if the government expects farmers to sacrifice their livelihood, it must compensate them.

He called for a per‑acre compensation amount above the regular ₹6,000 per acre per season, covering crop failures, water‑scarcity‑induced sowing delays and voluntary crop‑skip decisions. Reddy also sought assistance for tenant farmers and actual cultivators, and urged an all‑party meeting to assess rainfall, reservoir storage, crop damage and financial needs.
