Premier David Eby said the BC NDP will reserve a portion of advance BC Ferries bookings for residents of ferry‑dependent communities if the party wins the Oct. 24 provincial election. The pilot would apply to the Horseshoe Bay‑Langdale and Powell River‑Comox routes, setting aside 12 percent of advance reservation space for locals. Under the plan, 10 percent of the advance‑booking pool would be held for residents until four days before sailing, with a further two percent reserved until 24 hours prior. The percentages relate only to the advance‑reservation allotment, not the ferry’s total capacity. Eby emphasized that ferries are "critical infrastructure" for coastal residents who need them for medical appointments and family visits. BC NDP candidate Randene Neill added that ferries on the Sunshine Coast are part of everyday life, not just vacation transport. The party also pledged to work with BC Ferries on other routes, including those that operate on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Voting takes place on Oct. 24, with advance voting from Oct. 16 to Oct. 21, and a municipal election on Oct. 17.
