Apple announced its HomeView smart display and a suite of Home Collection accessories on Tuesday at the company’s Welcome Home event, according to Mashable and TechCrunch.

What happened

The HomeView hub, a seven‑inch Liquid Retina touchscreen mounted on a HomePod‑style base, was unveiled with pricing of $299 for the standard model. It will be sold directly by Apple and on Amazon, with colour options including silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray. The Home Collection, comprising a smart deadbolt lock, video doorbell, thermostat, temperature sensor and security cameras, will become available in December.

What the reports add

Mashable noted that the HomeView display can reach 500 nits in bright conditions and as low as 0.3 nits at night, and that it tilts on a stainless‑steel hinge for flexible placement. TechCrunch added that the smart lock is priced at $349.95 and uses ultra‑wideband (UWB) for automatic proximity unlocking, while the wired video doorbell is priced at $249.95. TechCrunch also reported that Apple partnered with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric to build the accessories, a detail not mentioned by Mashable.

What was said

TechCrunch quoted Apple’s announcement that the new devices are designed to work with HomeView, saying they aim to help Apple “compete better with Amazon Ring and Google Nest.” Mashable reported Apple’s description of HomeView as “the first completely new Apple hardware category since the Vision Pro.”

How it came about

Apple’s HomeView and Home Collection follow a series of recent moves into the smart‑home market. Earlier in October, Felo News reported Apple’s partnership with LG on co‑developed HomeKit‑compatible accessories (Apple partners with LG on new smart‑home accessories). The collaboration, announced on 6 Oct 2026, highlighted LG’s role in manufacturing devices that include ultra‑wideband lock technology, a feature now present in the Home Collection lock. Apple’s Welcome Home event was scheduled on 13 Oct 2026, with earlier coverage noting uncertainty about a livestream (Apple schedules ‘Welcome Home’ event for Oct 13).
