Apple and American Academy of Pediatrics launch family screen‑time guide
The guide aligns AAP advice with new features in Apple’s iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 updates.

Apple and the American Academy of Pediatrics have issued a six‑step guide to help families set screen‑time expectations and use Apple’s parental‑control tools, iClarified reported on September 29.
The "Building Healthy Digital Habits" guide begins with a conversation about device use in the household, then walks parents through creating a Child Account, reviewing apps and websites via Ask to Buy and Ask to Browse, and setting time allowances and schedules for sleep, school, exercise and family time. It also explains how to manage contacts and use Apple’s Communication Safety feature, which is enabled by default for users under 18.
Age‑specific recommendations from the AAP are included, covering infancy through the teenage years. Apple notes that the guide is meant to help parents apply the controls rather than add a new set of settings. The updated Screen Time features are available with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, and require all devices in a Family Sharing group to run the corresponding OS version. Availability may vary by region, language and device model.
