Queensland Department of Premier and Cabinet senior web developer Antonio Tran was suspended without pay on 10 August after the department said he had stored pornographic material on his work computer and filed false timesheets. Tran, who had been suspended with pay since 23 January, appealed to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission for his pay to continue, arguing he was struggling financially and needed accommodation support.
In his appeal, Tran said he was awaiting a Centrelink payment and was looking for private‑sector work. Industrial Commissioner Jacqueline Power questioned why he was financially strained after receiving remuneration for eight months and ruled that there was no proof he could repay the money if his appeal failed. Power also said continuing his pay would be a drain on public funds.
Acting Deputy Director‑General Jaime Blackburn had told Tran on 10 August that he would be suspended without pay until 9 November. The department had previously warned that Tran could be terminated over the substantiated allegations.
