Annette Badland, who played pub landlady Mae Green on Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, said she was “devastated” after learning her character would be killed off in the ninth episode of season 4, according to the Independent.
Badland told TV Insider that Jason Sudeikis informed her of the decision, prompting her to ask whether Mae could return as an angel. Sudeikis reportedly altered the following episode so Mae appears as a presence rather than a full‑bodied character.
In comments to Deadline, Badland reflected that the storyline illustrates how “people disappear” in life, adding that Mae “made the very best of her life and really relished it.” She also noted that the show was not originally planned for a fourth season, with the cast expecting a three‑series arc before the renewal.
