Channel 5’s new 5Drama channel will begin airing the Australian soap Home and Away from its first episode in 1988, starting 21 October. The move allows UK audiences to watch the series from the beginning, according to the channel’s announcement.

Actor Ray Meagher, who has appeared in the show since its debut, said it was "fantastic" to see the series reach new UK viewers and that early episodes hold "a lot of history" for the characters. Actress Emily Symons, who joined the cast in 1989 as Marilyn Chambers, added that the return would let fans "rediscover some of those early stories".
