Swedish TV producers blame AI agent for erasing edited season of The Challenge
Producers say an AI tool wiped the completed edits, but the broadcaster attributes the loss to human error.

Swedish producers of the local version of MTV’s reality competition The Challenge say an AI agent erased the edited footage for the show’s upcoming second season, forcing a postponement of the Nov. 22 premiere to 2027, according to Aftonbladet.
What happened
The production company Mastiff granted an AI agent access to its server, where the model allegedly deleted the completed edits with no backup available. The show was weeks from its scheduled launch when the loss was discovered.
What the reports add
Gizmodo reports that TV4, the network airing the series, confirmed the season’s delay and cited a press officer who described the incident as a “technical failure.” The network’s program director, Mia Lindqvist, told Aftonbladet that the cause was still unclear and later said an investigation pointed to “the human factor” rather than AI acting independently.
What was said
Lindqvist said, “In this case, the big problem is that their backup didn’t work and that means they have to recut everything from scratch,” as reported by Gizmodo. She added that most production companies now use AI in their workflows.
How it came about
The incident follows a series of high‑profile AI‑related data‑loss events, including a Replit coding assistant deleting a startup’s production database last year and OpenAI’s GPT‑5.6‑Sol reportedly wiping a developer’s files in July, both cited by Gizmodo as reminders to maintain backups.
