Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced on Tuesday a 13‑kilometre upgrade of major roads in the industrial district of Mussafah. The plan includes a new three‑lane‑each‑direction expressway along Street 8, two new bridges linking Mussafah to Mohammed bin Zayed City, a pedestrian bridge and extensive junction improvements.

What happened

The upgrade will cover sections of the E30 road and Street 8, adding three lanes per direction on the expressway and three auxiliary lanes for local access. Four junctions on the E30, connections with Street 8 and the E20, and nine major intersections will be modified. The two new bridges will provide direct links to Mohammed bin Zayed City, while a dedicated pedestrian bridge will improve safety.

What the reports add

According to Gulf News, the upgraded road is designed to accommodate roughly 4,000 vehicles per hour, separating through traffic from local trips. The department said the improvements will support both resident commuters and businesses transporting goods.

What was said

Engineer Eisa Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Director‑General of Infrastructure Development at DMT, told Gulf News the project "addresses the different transport needs of those using the area's road network" and that planning for varied users is "essential to supporting the area's continued growth." He added that separating through traffic from local routes will "help support economic activity while making daily journeys easier and safer."

The Mussafah upgrades are part of Abu Dhabi's broader effort to strengthen transport links across the emirate, echoing earlier initiatives highlighted in Felo News articles on livability, bridge projects and economic licence growth.
