Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen captured her first tournament title in two years by defeating French Open champion Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in the China Open final on Sunday in Beijing, the Associated Press reported.

Zheng, entering the event as a wild‑card after her ranking fell to No. 54 because of an elbow injury, clinched the match with an ace on her match‑point serve and was seen sobbing on court.

The victory follows a strong 2024 season in which Zheng reached the Australian Open final, won the Paris Olympic singles gold, and claimed a fifth WTA title in Japan. Earlier in the tournament, she had upset higher‑ranked players, including a quarter‑final win over Madison Keys.
