Zelensky urges front freeze as first step to cease‑fire talks

Zelensky said a front freeze is the real way to end the war, stressing security guarantees and full Ukrainian participation in any peace deal.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Fox and Friends on Wednesday that the first step toward cease‑fire talks should be a freeze of the front line with Russia. He said, “Right now we have to freeze, and I think this is the real way to end this war.”

Zelensky added that any peace arrangement must include security guarantees from the United States and European allies, warning that without them Ukrainians would fear a return of occupation and aggression. He also urged that peace talks not proceed without Ukraine’s direct involvement.

The comments came as U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg, and Russia announced the release of U.S. citizen Stephen Hubbard and a diesel shipment deal with President Donald Trump.
