A joint federal‑PPP delegation will meet Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) leaders on Friday, the President’s Office said, after President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Thursday at the President House.
The two leaders discussed the country’s overall political and security situation, focusing on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where PTI governs. They expressed concern over recent terrorist incidents in Hangu, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Kohat, and stressed the need for stronger national resolve against terrorism.
The delegation will include Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, and Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Amir Muqam on the federal side, while the PPP will be represented by Senator Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar and Aijaz Jakhrani.
Rana Sanaullah told reporters that “off‑the‑record talks” are ongoing with PTI about its planned protest on Oct 4, adding that the decision rests with PTI’s senior leadership. He warned that “even if they do not postpone it, we have arrangements in place to stop them,” and likened a PTI march to a “provincial government attacking the capital.” Sanaullah also said the option of imposing governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is “on the table.”
Separately, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari spoke by phone with KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who briefed him on the recent security incidents and other developments in the province.
