The Guardian says the fighting has killed at least 169 people and displaced thousands across Yemen's Red Sea coast.

The Guardian reported that as many as 169 people have been killed in Yemen over the past three days as Iran‑aligned Houthis battle Saudi‑backed government forces for control of strategic heights on the Red Sea coast.

Houthi officials said at least 118 deaths resulted from clashes and Saudi air and artillery strikes in Taiz, al‑Jawf, Marib and Saada provinces, while Yemeni government sources put their own losses at a minimum of 36 people.

The Houthis also accused Saudi Arabia of striking the port city of Mocha on Tuesday, killing six civilians, including two children, and of a Saudi strike on a prison in al‑Jawf that killed nine detainees.

Saudi officials issued an alert in southern Yemen after the Houthis launched strikes at Riyadh over the weekend, marking the first such attack on the Saudi capital in years.
