Dubai saw the launch of the Vault Fight League (VFL) on Sept. 12 at The Agenda in Dubai Media City, drawing more than 2,000 spectators, Gulf News reported.
What happened
The inaugural VFL 1 card featured 11 professional bouts with fighters from over 10 countries. In the main event, former UFC competitor Jeremy Kennedy fought Georgia’s Guram Kutateladze to a unanimous decision after three rounds. The co‑main event ended in 63 seconds when Alim Nabiev stopped Mike “Blood Diamond” Mathetha with a flurry of punches. Emerging talent Rayyan Nashwan, a Jordanian‑Palestinian fighter, earned a first‑round rear‑naked choke submission over Abdeljalil Allach.
What the reports add
The article notes that the event was designed as a full‑night experience, emphasizing fighter walk‑outs, lighting, music and production. It also highlights backing from the Dubai Sports Council, which the league says was crucial to bringing the promotion to the stage.
What was said
Founder Zeyd Al Moosa, an 18‑year‑old entrepreneur, said, “I don’t want VFL to simply sign recognisable names. I want VFL to create names.”
How it came about
Al Moosa conceived VFL as a Dubai‑born MMA property aimed at developing its own fighters, rivalries and stars, positioning the league as a home‑grown alternative to overseas promotions.
