Patrick Reed has confirmed his entry for the DP World Tour Championship, scheduled for November 12‑15 at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, according to Gulf News. The American, who has led the Race to Dubai rankings for more than seven months, will aim to finish the season as the leader and claim the Harry Vardon Trophy.
What happened
Reed moved into first place in the Race to Dubai Rankings in February after a strong start to the season. He opened the year with a four‑shot victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January, his fourth DP World Tour title, and followed that with a two‑stroke win at the Qatar Masters two weeks later, bringing his career total to five DP World Tour victories.
What the reports add
Gulf News notes that Reed, currently ranked No. 29 worldwide, could become only the second American to finish the season as European Number One, after Collin Morikawa achieved the feat in 2021. The outlet also lists the top five players in the Race to Dubai standings: Reed, three‑time champion Rory McIlroy, US PGA Champion Eugenio Chacarra, Aaron Rai and Open champion Ryan Fox.
What was said
Reed said, “I’ve played the DP World Tour Championship a bunch of times over the years, so I know the golf course pretty well and what it takes to get it done there. There are some really good players behind me, and that’s what makes the DP World Tour so competitive. You know you’re going to have to play well right to the end.”
How it came about
Reed’s early‑season wins propelled him to the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings, a position he has maintained for over half a year. His participation adds to the tournament’s status as Dubai’s premier sporting event, the 18th edition of which offers free attendance on Thursday for pre‑registered fans and a range of ticket options for the remaining days.
