Heavy rain and hail fell over parts of Sharjah on Thursday afternoon, prompting the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) to issue a convective cloud alert and a flash‑flood warning, Gulf News reported.
The convective cloud alert was in force from 12:30 pm to 10:00 pm on 15 October, covering large sections of the eastern region from Ras Al Khaimah through Fujairah and the Hajar mountains, as well as pockets of southern and western Abu Dhabi. An orange warning applied to parts of the eastern mountains, indicating hazardous weather.
In addition, the NCM set a flash‑flood alert for mountain areas between 2 pm and 7 pm, urging residents to avoid wadis, valleys and low‑lying zones. Videos from the Storm Centre showed intense showers in Al Dhaid, Washah and Mleiha, while social‑media clips captured hailstones covering roads and vehicles navigating water‑logged streets.
Authorities advised drivers to reduce speed, keep safe distances and avoid flooded roads. Outdoor activities in mountain zones were discouraged, and residents were told to park vehicles on covered or elevated ground if hail was expected. The centre recommended following updates from official sources only.
The wet spell is part of a broader period of unsettled weather, with rain forecast across the UAE through the weekend and into Monday, especially in eastern and southern areas during afternoons.
