President Donald Trump is set to announce a $15 billion steel mill in Iowa on Monday, a White House official said. The plant, to be built by Minnesota‑based Mesabi Metallics, will use iron ore from a new mine the company is investing $2.5 billion to develop in Minnesota. The mine is expected to come on line in the coming weeks and produce about 7.5 million tons of iron per year, creating roughly 350 jobs in the state.

The Iowa facility is projected to start production by 2030 and could ultimately produce 10 million tons of steel annually. It will create as many as 1,750 permanent jobs in Iowa, the official said. The plant will also be capable of supporting defense sector requirements for high‑grade steel.

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said the announcement would "deliver on the President’s promise to rebuild American industry, re‑shore manufacturing and create new jobs". The project is part of the administration’s focus on domestic manufacturing ahead of the November mid‑term elections.

The Wall Street Journal was the first outlet to report the announcement. The plan has been described by the White House as the "largest steel plant in U. S. history".
