Trinidad and Tobago is pursuing the implementation of India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI), becoming the first Caribbean nation to adopt the digital payment technology, the country's High Commissioner to India, Chandradath Singh, said on Monday.
Speaking at a Republic Day event in New Delhi marking the 50th anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago's republic status, Singh said the UPI initiative is being actively pursued under a landmark agreement between the National Payments Corporation of India International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Digital Transformation.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit resulted in six MoUs and agreements, strengthening bilateral ties and supporting the digital payments project.
