Tommy Dorfman’s Good Girl Productions to Adapt Samantha Josephs’ Horror Novel “Carrying”

The debut novel about a trans woman’s unexpected pregnancy will be turned into a feature film by Good Girl Productions.

Samantha Josephs’ debut horror novel “Carrying,” about a transgender woman who discovers she is pregnant, is being adapted into a feature film by Tommy Dorfman’s Good Girl Productions, Variety reported on Oct. 1.

Dorfman will direct and produce while Josephs will write the screenplay. The book, published by Putnam/Penguin Random House, is scheduled to hit shelves on Oct. 6 and was recently shortlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize.

Josephs praised Dorfman’s understanding of the story, saying, “From our very first meeting, it wasn’t just Tommy’s love for ‘Carrying’ that got me, but that she completely understood it,” as quoted by Variety.

Good Girl Productions, launched in 2025, also has adaptations of Torrey Peters’ “Detransition, Baby” and Allie Rowbottom’s “Aestetica” in development.
