TfL outlines major new transport projects across London

TfL's pipeline includes new Overground routes, a DLR extension and a Bakerloo line stretch, with construction slated for the early 2030s.

Transport for London (TfL) has published a list of major transport schemes it is developing or planning, ranging from new Overground lines to extensions of the Docklands Light Railway and the Bakerloo underground line.

The West London Orbital Overground proposal would link Hendon and Hounslow, run up to six trains per hour and add four new stations – Neasden, Harlesden, Old Oak Common Lane and Lionel Road. TfL estimates the route could remove about 650,000 car journeys a year, support 25,000 homes and 11,500 jobs, and generate up to £1.3 billion in wider economic benefits. A £6.65 million design and consultation package was approved earlier this year, with a decision on seeking construction powers expected in 2027 and possible service start around 2035.

Separately, TfL is preparing a Docklands Light Railway extension to serve the Beckton Riverside and Thamesmead redevelopment zones. The project, costing roughly £1.6 billion, could support 25,000 homes and 10,000 jobs. Treasury approval was granted in the November 2025 budget, and TfL aims to begin construction in 2029 with an opening in the early 2030s.

The agency also proposes extending the Bakerloo line southward to Lewisham, a move it says could unlock thousands of jobs and new homes along the corridor. Details on service frequency and exact stations remain under review.
