Elon Musk demonstrated the Tesla Roadster 2 at SpaceX’s rocket development and testing facility in Texas, calling it the world’s first flying car.
The two‑seater sports car lifted off a curved ramp, used suction to grip upside down, then flipped and flew using rear thrusters before landing. Musk said the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than a second and perform rolls and other “crazy gymnastics”. He added that the prototype is not safety‑optimised and may not be legal everywhere.
After the demo, Tesla opened a reservation page: a “performance” version requires a £50,000 deposit, a “thrust” version a $250,000 deposit, and a one‑seat “rocket” variant is invitation‑only. Flying the car on public roads is prohibited.
