Steve Kerr says Curry’s reduced contract boosts Warriors’ cap flexibility

Kerr notes the rare pay cut mirrors Tim Duncan’s and creates flexibility for next‑season signings.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told ESPN’s Anthony Slater on Friday from the team’s Oahu training camp that Stephen Curry’s new two‑year, $116 million contract is about $20 million below the maximum he could have taken. Kerr compared the move to similar pay cuts made by Tim Duncan and Manu Ginóbili late in their careers, saying such reductions are rare and usually happen with players who have spent their entire careers with one organization.

“Steph is obviously still making a ton of money, but he’s very unselfish and understands that this pickup will allow us next summer to sign better players, more players,” Kerr said, emphasizing that the deal creates cap space for the Warriors to add talent in the coming offseason.
