A KLA consumer‑insights study, using YouGov Profiles+ data, reports that 53% of South African adults now eat fast food at least once a week, while only 1% never do, according to bizcommunity.com.

The research also finds that 65% of adults still describe eating out as a treat for special moments, and that weekly fast‑food eaters are more likely to cite convenience as the main driver (49% agree it’s more convenient). The habit is strongest among younger adults – roughly two‑thirds of 18‑24‑year‑olds eat fast food weekly – and is concentrated among men, middle‑to‑higher‑income households and parents of children under 18.

Weekly consumers also report lifestyle pressures: 46% say they lack time to cook, compared with 19% of low‑or‑never users, and about three‑quarters snack between meals, versus 61% of the low‑or‑never group.
