Three years after the Oct 7 Hamas attacks that killed about 1,200 people, Sigal Manzuri, a US‑Israeli mother from Hod HaSharon, says she is dedicating her life to preserving the memory of her daughters, Norelle (25) and Roya (22), who were killed at the Supernova music festival.

What happened

On Oct 7, 2023, Hamas militants entered Israel, killing roughly 1,200 civilians and taking 251 hostages. Manzuri’s daughters were among those murdered at the festival. Israel’s subsequent military campaign is estimated to have caused over 70,000 Palestinian deaths.

What the report adds

The Independent notes that Manzuri founded “NoRo – Lighting the Way”, a community support group built around her daughters’ interests and the memory of their fiancé, Amit Cohen, who also died in the attacks. She hopes to expand the project to Los Angeles, where the girls were born.

What was said

Manzuri told the outlet, “After three years, my worst fear is that my kids’ memory will fade away,” and added, “We don’t fight with weapons. We fight with what we believe in. And we believe in love.” She also said, “I know it’s not going to be smooth, but I feel that this is our chance… to start to heal and to fix what really happened here.”

How it came about

Manzuri last saw her daughters on Oct 6, 2023, during a family Simchat Torah meal. After the tragedy, she says the only way to survive was to find meaning, describing her work as “guided” by her daughters. Her activism follows earlier coverage by Felo News on families keeping the Oct 7 memory alive (see article).
