Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan will give equal opportunities to talented athletes across the country, speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad after the Asian Games where Pakistani competitors earned two silver and eight bronze medals.
He urged better training, resources and financial backing, describing support as a right rather than a favour, and pledged to encourage young sportspersons from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit‑Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
Sharif recalled historic support from public institutions such as Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Railways and the Water and Power Development Authority, noting he had ordered the restoration of that system during the previous PDM government. He also announced a forthcoming sports conference that will bring together federal and provincial officials, former stars and current athletes to discuss measures for strengthening sport and restoring international recognition.
