Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif defended the decision to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying it serves Pakistan’s national interest and was taken out of necessity, according to dailytimes.com.pk.
Speaking in Gujranwala, Sharif claimed the federal government had offered full cooperation to both chief ministers of the province, but political tensions and PTI’s long marches and threats hampered joint efforts.
He criticised the Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) for protests, demonstrations and sit‑ins that could disrupt routine operations, alleging the opposition planned violence during its latest protest.
Sharif said officials urged provincial leadership to cooperate against terrorism and that a negotiating committee worked through the night, but the other side refused to approve a draft agreement at the last moment, leaving talks stalled.
