Selma Blair’s representatives issued a statement on Friday asserting that a medical emergency, not violent intent, caused the alleged assaults on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York on Sunday.

The statement says Blair, 54, experienced a medical episode aboard the aircraft and did not try to open the door or intend to harm anyone. It adds that she lives with multiple sclerosis and pseudobulbar affect, conditions that can affect how a medical episode appears to observers. The spokesperson also notes that Blair travels with a service dog, which was taken from her by authorities.

According to the statement, Blair was accused of injuring two flight attendants on the plane, then kicking a police officer who escorted her to the hospital and a nurse once she arrived. She pleaded not guilty on Monday to two state assault counts involving the officer and the nurse, and a judge issued a protective order for them. She remains free on bail, with her next court appearance scheduled for January.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a notice charging Blair with assault related to her actions aboard the aircraft, a federal law enforcement official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The official said the FBI could not comment publicly beyond the notice.

Air traffic communications captured the Delta pilot requesting medical personnel at the gate for bite marks and a bloody nose, but stating ambulances were not needed. The statement criticises the public narrative as being built largely on a police statement and a decade‑old headline.
