Saudia honors pilot killed as Riyadh airport attacks halt flights

Saudia released an obituary on Oct. 9 confirming that Captain Hamoud Ali Alkalthami was killed in the attacks on King Khalid International Airport on Oct. 8. The airline said a Saudia aircraft was damaged while parked at the airport, though no passengers were aboard.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) reported three Saudi citizens dead and several injured, with casualties ranging from minor to critical. Injured individuals, including Saudi citizens and foreign residents, were taken to hospitals. GACA also noted property damage and said it was coordinating damage assessments and safety checks.

Saudia said its flights and airport operations resumed by 6 p.m. on Oct. 8, and GACA confirmed normal air traffic had returned. Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia reported various cancellations and delays on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10 as airlines adjusted schedules.
