German actress Sandra Hüller will appear in three U.S. releases this year, according to a report by the New York Post. The films include the Tom Cruise‑starring comedy Digger, the historical drama Fatherland from Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski, and the sci‑fi film Project Hail Mary starring Ryan Gosling.
Hüller first gained U.S. attention in 2023 when she starred in two Oscar‑nominated Best Picture contenders, Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest. In Project Hail Mary, she plays the morally ambiguous leader of the task force that sends Gosling into space to save the planet, a role that included a memorable karaoke scene.
In Digger, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Hüller portrays the half‑sister and business partner of Tom Cruise’s oil‑tycoon character. The film, a satire about a megalomaniac oil tycoon, opens in U.S. theaters on Friday. Reviews are pending, but the New York Post notes that Hüller’s brief appearance in the trailer includes a line to Cruise: “You’re gonna save the world.”
Meanwhile, Fatherland premiered at Cannes in May and was screened at the New York Film Festival for journalists yesterday. The film, the third in Pawlikowski’s trilogy of historical biopics, stars Hüller as Erika Mann, the daughter of famed German novelist Thomas Mann. It opens in U.S. theaters on October 23.
