BTS rapper RM previewed his first solo museum exhibition, "RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me," at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
What happened
The exhibition displays 178 works – 142 pieces from RM’s personal collection and 36 from SFMOMA – spanning a range of periods and cultures. The show is the first proper museum exhibition RM has staged, following an anonymous show in South Korea three years earlier.
What the reports add
The Los Angeles Times notes that RM, who was on a BTS hiatus and nearing mandatory military service, was approached by SFMOMA two years ago. He worked with SFMOMA project manager América Castillo and assistant curator Hyoeun Kim to select works that move him and convey relevance in 2026.
What was said
RM told the outlet, "In an age where everything is consumed so fast, I believe the attitudes of some of the past artists can resonate even more deeply today." He added, "I’ve always dreamed of seeing different places, times, boundaries and backgrounds all mixed together in harmony."
How it came about
RM previously partnered with the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art in 2023 to provide guided audio narration for a Korean art exhibition. The new SFMOMA show builds on his long‑standing interest in museum‑hopping, bicycling and nature, activities his fans refer to as “namjooning.”
