Durham Regional Police have charged former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Richard Butler and his wife Michelle with multiple fraud‑related offences, alleging they collected roughly $60,000 from families for a baseball training program that was never delivered.
According to the police, parents paid registration fees for the Ontario Devil Rays program for the 2025 season, depositing the money into accounts linked to the organization between April 1 and Oct. 31, 2025. The funds were then transferred to accounts associated with Butler rather than used for training.
Both are charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and uttering a forged document. Police warn additional victims may exist and ask anyone affected to come forward.
