Rebecca Allen is leaving Universal Music Group UK after 27 years, according to an internal memo obtained by Billboard. The memo, addressed to staff, states that she will step down from her role as chief artist and strategy officer but will stay on in an advisory capacity.

Allen’s career at UMG began in 1999 and included senior positions at EMI and Decca. She served as co‑president of the rebooted EMI from 2020 to 2024 alongside Jo Charrington, and was president of Decca Records from June 2017 to June 2020. In 2025, UMG created the chief artist and strategy officer role, which Allen filled most recently.

In the memo, Allen thanked colleagues, describing her time at Universal as “quite a ride” and emphasizing her belief that “how you do something matters just as much as what you do.” She highlighted the importance of kindness, respect, bravery, and putting music and artists at the centre of decisions.

Universal Music Group UK did not immediately respond to Billboard’s request for comment.
