Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts to foster a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war was a matter of pride for every Indian. Shah posted the comment on X on Friday, noting that the compliment arrived on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, underscoring India’s long‑standing message of non‑violence.

Shah quoted Putin’s earlier statement that Modi had "very good ideas" for a mutually acceptable solution to the Ukraine conflict and had repeatedly raised the issue in their meetings. He added that Modi’s view that wars cannot be solved on battlefields but through dialogue reflects India’s civilisational ethos of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" – the world as one family.

The Home Minister also highlighted India’s humanitarian assistance during wars and natural disasters, saying the country’s voice now carries significant weight in international crises. Shah’s post included a link to the original tweet and a photograph of the statement.
