A Premier League panel has upheld referee Rob Jones' and VAR Michael Salisbury's decision that Manchester City midfielder Elliot Anderson did not handle the ball during the club's 5-3 victory over Sunderland, Independent reported on 30 September 2026.
The five‑person Key Match Incidents panel voted 3‑2 in favour of the original call, with two members believing Anderson deliberately moved his arm toward the ball. The panel also voted 4‑1 that VAR was correct in not intervening.
Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris criticised the outcome, saying the decision left his side "furious" after the ball struck Anderson's hand during a second‑half scramble with Enzo Le Fee.
