Police identified the body recovered from the Cuyahoga River on Wednesday as 24‑year‑old Phoenix Phillips of Perryville, Maryland, according to the New York Post. Phillips had traveled to Cleveland to attend the Steelers‑Browns matchup and was last seen early Friday morning near West Superior Avenue and Robert Lockwood Jr. Drive.

Emergency crews dredged the river after a 1 p.m. call reported a person in the water near Jacobs Pavilion. Cleveland police spokesperson Sgt. Freddy Diaz told WEWS that Phillips "at some point kind of got separated from the person he was with," and investigators are still determining how he entered the river.

Before the identification, Cleveland Missing social‑worker Breejanee Alford said the family described Phillips as a "loving dad." The cause of death remains unknown.
