Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Tuesday that the state government is encouraging fathers to take an active role in childcare and nutrition, stressing collective effort to build a well‑nourished state.
Speaking at the state‑level ‘Angan Ka Utsav’ held at an Anganwadi centre in Baramunda, Bhubaneswar, Majhi noted the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life and called for greater involvement of fathers and other family members.
He praised Anganwadi workers, helpers, auxiliary nurse midwives and ASHA workers for improving child immunisation, institutional deliveries and reducing infant and maternal mortality. Majhi said at least 40 % of the state budget is earmarked for women and cited schemes such as Subhadra Yojana, Lakhyapati Didi, Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana.
During the programme the chief minister distributed school kits to children, felicitated fathers who presented healthy‑food demonstrations, and inspected the quality of meals. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Ekamra‑Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh were also present.
